रक्षाबंधन न केवल भाई-बहन के रिश्ते का प्रतीक है, बल्कि यह समर्पण, आस्था और धर्म की रक्षा का भी प्रतीक है।
राजा बलि और भगवान विष्णु की यह पौराणिक कथा रक्षाबंधन से जुड़ी एक गहरी आध्यात्मिक भावना को उजागर करती है।
राजा बलि असुरों के राजा थे, लेकिन वे धर्मनिष्ठ, सत्यनिष्ठ और भगवान विष्णु के परम भक्त थे।
उनकी भक्ति और यज्ञ की शक्ति इतनी प्रबल थी कि तीनों लोक उनके अधीन होने लगे, जिससे देवताओं में चिंता व्याप्त हो गई।
देवताओं ने भगवान विष्णु से सहायता की प्रार्थना की, और तब भगवान विष्णु ने वामन अवतार लिया।
भगवान विष्णु बौने ब्राह्मण वामन का रूप धारण करके राजा बलि के यज्ञ में पहुँचे।
बलि ने यज्ञ में किसी को भी कुछ भी देने से मना नहीं किया।
वामन ने मुस्कुराते हुए तीन पग भूमि माँगी।
राजा बलि ने वचन दे दिया।
फिर क्या हुआ?
पहले पग में वामन ने धरती नाप ली।
दूसरे पग में आकाश नाप लिया।
तीसरे पग के लिए जगह नहीं बची।
राजा बलि ने तीसरा पग अपने माथे पर रखने को कहा।
वामन ने वैसा ही किया और राजा बलि को पाताल लोक भेज दिया, लेकिन उनकी भक्ति से प्रसन्न होकर विष्णु जी ने उन्हें वरदान दिया कि वे पाताल लोक के राजा बनेंगे और हर युग में उनकी पूजा की जाएगी।
जब भगवान विष्णु राजा बलि के साथ पाताल लोक में रहने लगे, तो देवी लक्ष्मी चिंतित हो गईं।
विष्णु जी के वियोग से दुखी होकर लक्ष्मी जी ब्राह्मणी का वेश धारण करके राजा बलि के पास पहुँचीं और उन्हें रक्षासूत्र बाँधा।
बलि ने पूछा - "आप कौन हैं?"
तब लक्ष्मी ने अपना परिचय दिया और विष्णु जी से वापस पूछा।
राजा बलि मुस्कुराए और बोले –
"तुमने मुझे अपनी बहन बनाया है और रक्षा सूत्र बाँधा है, अब मैं तुम्हें खाली हाथ नहीं भेज सकता। तुम अपने पति के साथ लौट सकती हो।"
यह कहानी दर्शाती है कि रक्षाबंधन केवल रक्त संबंध ही नहीं, बल्कि एक भावनात्मक रिश्ता भी हो सकता है।
रक्षा सूत्र न केवल भाई-बहन के बीच, बल्कि भगवान और भक्त, पति-पत्नी, या पुरुष और देवी के बीच भी एक पवित्र बंधन हो सकता है।

The gods prayed to Lord Vishnu for help, and then Lord Vishnu took the Vamana avatar.
Lord Vishnu reached the yajna of King Bali in the form of dwarf Brahmin Vamana.
Bali did not refuse to give anything to anyone in the yajna.
Vamana smilingly asked for three steps of land.
King Bali gave his word.
What happened next?
In the first step, Vaman measured the earth.
In the second step, he measured the sky.
There was no space left for the third step.
King Bali asked to place the third step on his forehead.
Vaman did the same and sent King Bali to Patal Lok, but pleased with his devotion, Vishnu Ji gave him a boon that he would become the king of Patal Lok and would be worshipped in every era.
When Lord Vishnu started living in Patal Lok with King Bali, Goddess Lakshmi became worried.
Saddened by the separation from Vishnu Ji, Lakshmi Ji disguised herself as a Brahmini and reached King Bali and tied Raksha Sutra to him.
Bali asked - "Who are you?"
Then Lakshmi introduced herself and asked Vishnu Ji back.
King Bali smiled and said –
"You have made me your sister and tied a Raksha Sutra, now I cannot send you empty handed. You can return with your husband."
This story shows that Raksha Bandhan can be not only a blood relation but also an emotional relationship.
Raksha Sutra can be a sacred bond not only between brother and sister but also between God and devotee, husband and wife, or man and goddess.
