रक्षाबंधन केवल राखी बांधने का त्योहार नहीं है, बल्कि यह भाई-बहन के पवित्र प्रेम, रक्षा और लंबी आयु का त्योहार है। इस त्योहार से जुड़ी कई पौराणिक कथाएँ हैं, जिनमें से एक सबसे प्रसिद्ध यमराज और यमुनाजी की कथा है। यह कथा न केवल भाई-बहन के रिश्ते को मज़बूत करती है, बल्कि यह भी बताती है कि रक्षाबंधन का रिश्ता केवल इस लोक तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि आध्यात्मिक और दिव्य भावनाओं से जुड़ा है।
प्राचीन काल की बात है। मृत्यु के देवता माने जाने वाले यमराज की एक बहन थीं जिनका नाम यमुनाजी था। यमुनाजी अपने भाई यमराज से बहुत प्रेम करती थीं और उन्हें बार-बार अपने घर आने का निमंत्रण देती थीं। लेकिन यमराज अपने कर्तव्यों में इतने व्यस्त रहते थे कि हर बार आने से मना कर देते थे।
अंततः एक दिन यमुनाजी ने प्रण लिया कि जब तक उनका भाई उनसे मिलने नहीं आएगा, तब तक वे अन्न ग्रहण और जल ग्रहण नहीं करेंगी। यह जानकर यमराज चिंतित हो गए और तुरंत अपनी बहन के घर पहुँचे। यमुनाजी उन्हें देखकर बहुत प्रसन्न हुईं और उनका प्रेमपूर्वक स्वागत किया तथा उन्हें भोजन कराया। भोजन के बाद, यमुनाजी ने यमराज की कलाई पर रक्षासूत्र बाँधा और उनकी दीर्घायु और कल्याण की कामना की।
इस प्रेम और त्याग से अभिभूत होकर, यमराज ने अपनी बहन को वरदान दिया -
"जो भी बहन इस दिन अपने भाई को रक्षासूत्र बाँधेगी और उसे प्रेमपूर्वक भोजन कराएगी, उसका भाई दीर्घायु और समृद्ध होगा।"
यह श्रावण मास की पूर्णिमा का दिन था और तभी से रक्षाबंधन का त्योहार शुरू हुआ।
भाई और बहन का रिश्ता सिर्फ़ खून का नहीं, बल्कि आत्मा का बंधन होता है।
रक्षासूत्र सिर्फ़ एक धागा नहीं, बल्कि सुरक्षा, विश्वास और प्रेम का प्रतीक है।
जब एक बहन अपने भाई के लिए सच्चे प्रेम से शुभकामनाएँ देती है, तो उसका प्रभाव दिव्य होता है।
यह कथा यह भी दर्शाती है कि हिंदू संस्कृति में सभी रिश्तों को किस प्रकार दिव्यता प्रदान की गई है। रक्षाबंधन न केवल सांसारिक, बल्कि आध्यात्मिक परंपरा भी है, जिसमें रक्षा की भावना सर्वोपरि है।
आज भी भारत के कई भागों में यमुनाजी के तट पर विशेष पूजा और रक्षासूत्र बाँधने की परंपरा निभाई जाती है।
मथुरा और वृंदावन में यमुनाजी की विशेष पूजा की जाती है और बहनें अपने भाइयों की दीर्घायु के लिए व्रत रखती हैं।
यम और यमुनाजी की कथा हमें यह सिखाती है कि रक्षाबंधन केवल एक अनुष्ठान नहीं, बल्कि एक भावना है - आत्मीयता, प्रेम और सुरक्षा की।
जब एक बहन पूरी श्रद्धा के साथ अपने भाई की कलाई पर राखी बाँधती है, तो उसमें दिव्यता समाहित हो जाती है।

It is a matter of ancient times. Yamraj, who is considered the god of death, had a sister named Yamunaji. Yamunaji loved her brother Yamraj very much and repeatedly invited him to come to her house. But Yamraj was so busy with his duties that he refused to come every time.
Finally one day Yamunaji vowed that she would not eat food and drink water until her brother comes to meet her. Knowing this, Yamraj got worried and immediately rushed to his sister's house. Yamunaji was very happy to see him and welcomed him lovingly and fed him. After the meal, Yamunaji tied a Raksha Sutra on Yamraj's wrist and wished him long life and well-being.
Overwhelmed by this love and sacrifice, Yamraj gave a boon to his sister -
"Any sister who ties a Raksha Sutra to her brother on this day and feeds him lovingly, her brother will live long and prosper."
It was the full moon day of Shravan month and from then the festival of Raksha Bandhan started.
The relationship between a brother and a sister is not just a bond of blood but a bond of soul.
Raksha Sutra is not just a thread but a symbol of protection, trust and love.
When a sister wishes well for her brother with true love, its effect is divine.
This story also shows how all relationships have been given divinity in Hindu culture. Raksha Bandhan is not only a worldly but also a spiritual tradition, in which the feeling of protection is paramount.
Even today, in many parts of India, the tradition of special worship and tying Raksha Sutra is performed on the banks of Yamunaji.
Special worship of Yamunaji is done in Mathura and Vrindavan and sisters keep fast for the long life of their brothers.
The story of Yam and Yamunaji teaches us that Raksha Bandhan is not just a ritual, but a feeling - of intimacy, love and protection.
