रक्षाबंधन केवल एक धागा नहीं, बल्कि प्रेम, त्याग और रक्षा का पवित्र प्रतीक है। इस त्योहार से जुड़ी कई कथाएँ हैं, लेकिन श्रीकृष्ण और द्रौपदी की कथा सबसे अधिक श्रद्धा से पूजी जाती है। यह कथा न केवल रक्षाबंधन के आध्यात्मिक महत्व को दर्शाती है, बल्कि यह भी दिखाती है कि सच्चा रिश्ता कैसे संकट में रक्षा करता है।
महाभारत काल की यह कथा तब की है जब श्रीकृष्ण ने शिशुपाल वध किया।
युद्ध के दौरान श्रीकृष्ण की उंगली कट गई और उसमें से रक्त बहने लगा। यह देखकर द्रौपदी ने अपनी साड़ी का एक छोर फाड़कर श्रीकृष्ण की उंगली पर बाँध दिया।
इस छोटे से कार्य में बहन का स्नेह और सेवा भाव छिपा था।
श्रीकृष्ण उस क्षण बहुत भावुक हो गए और उन्होंने द्रौपदी को वचन दिया:
"इस ऋण को मैं जीवन भर नहीं भूलूँगा, और जब भी तुम संकट में होगी, मैं तुम्हारी रक्षा करूँगा।"
वह दिन श्रावण पूर्णिमा का ही था — वही दिन जो आज रक्षाबंधन के रूप में मनाया जाता है।
बाद में जब कौरवों ने द्रौपदी का चीरहरण करना चाहा, तो श्रीकृष्ण ने उसी वचन को निभाया। उन्होंने अदृश्य रूप से उसकी साड़ी को इतना लंबा कर दिया कि दुशासन उसे खींचता ही रह गया और हार माननी पड़ी।
यह कथा हमें सिखाती है कि:
राखी केवल एक रिवाज नहीं, बल्कि रक्षा का वचन है।
प्रेम और श्रद्धा से बंधे रिश्ते, संकट में अदृश्य ढाल बन जाते हैं।
"रक्षा के वचन से बंधी एक राखी, जो श्रीकृष्ण ने निभाई – द्रौपदी की लाज बनी साड़ी!"
श्रीकृष्ण और द्रौपदी की यह रक्षाबंधन कथा आज भी सभी बहनों के हृदय में सुरक्षा और विश्वास का प्रतीक बनकर जीवित है। जब बहन राखी बाँधती है, तो उसमें श्रीकृष्ण जैसी रक्षा की अपेक्षा और द्रौपदी जैसा समर्पण छिपा होता है।

That day was Shravan Purnima - the day which is celebrated as Rakshabandhan today.
Later, when the Kauravas wanted to disrobe Draupadi, Shri Krishna repeated the same promise. He invisibly made his job so difficult that Dushasan made him a salon and went to the pad to give up.
This story teaches us that:
